I started overhauling my wall of doom, and took a lot of lame figures and sentenced them them to the tub O' Doom to then be sent to the basement of doom.
I noticed the good figures looking so dull from dust, and I took some high gloss tire dressing (anything will work... Armor-All, Tire- Wet, etc, any vinyl- rubber dressing) and applied it to a small sponge and worked it in the figure. The difference was nothing short of amazing. I should have taken some before/ after pics, but here's a verbal example.
I took the MM Shaft figure, and after putting down the tire dressing, his leather coat had the proper sheen, his skin looks like it's sweating and real, and the figure just shines and pops off the shelf! And his shoes look like they were shined, not all dusty looking... It also makes metal look so shiny and real!
Try putting tire dressing on one figure, and see if it doesn't dramatically increase the life-like appearance. I was amazed by the results. Some figures look better than when I bought them! I now have a renewed interest in my figures because of this...they look new to me again!
Anyone do this yet?

BTW: I am sure this treatment will extend the life of the rubber capes, etc. that tend to crack with age. The tire dressing will keep them from drying out!

We need a long term study. I wonder if there will be a negative affect over the long haul?

Interesting idea. But there was way too much doom in your post!

LOL...."But I like Doom."
I'm tellin ya...try it one just one figure, you'll be amazed at the new look.
I would imagine it would only prolong the life of the vinyl, and not discolor.

be careful about which 'tire dressing' you use---stuff like 'black magic' will actually erode the surface---some of these are petroleum based

I guess Jor not dusting figures explains the reasoning as to why he had to paint the house to make the inside look like he was living on the beach (which is outside, and makes no sense 'cause if you wanted to live on the beach, well, why not just become a bum?)
